Reality check

This line is over. Its maker went bankrupt, and the company that bought the assets restarted NAO but not Pepper, so anything you buy is remaining or used stock on a platform with no new production and an uncertain cloud and support future.

Can you get one, and what will it cost?

A planning estimate with machine, freight, duty, and tax shown separately.

Effectively no

You cannot order the Pepper today: it is discontinued.

Nobody can order a newly built Pepper. What remains is reseller stock and the secondary market; Pepper+ is a Japan-only business rental.

Price notes: END OF LINE: $32,000 is a last-known reseller list price for remaining stock, not a price the maker will build you a robot for. Aldebaran went bankrupt and Maxvision, which bought the NAO and Pepper assets, has relaunched NAO (NAO6 on sale, NAO7 in development) but kept Pepper on support only, with no resumption of manufacturing announced. RobotLAB (US) still lists $32,000 with financing; the secondary market runs $5,000-15,000 used. SoftBank Robotics launched 'Pepper+' on 2 February 2026, but that is a Japan-only rental from JPY 79,800/month (a refreshed design and AI conversation stack for retail and care), not a purchasable successor to this unit. Treat $32,000 as a valuation reference for remaining or used stock, not an offer.

What it does on day onewith zero programming+

A reception and engagement robot: speech dialog, tablet apps, face detection, and gestures, proven in retail and healthcare reception. Not a manipulator or worker.

Best for: Retail and reception deployments that already run Pepper and want a spare, or buyers who accept an ended platform for the price.

What it takes to developskills, gear, and SDK access+

Choregraphe/NAOqi (Python) or the Android SDK for tablet apps.

SDK access: NAOqi + Android SDK; an extensive but aging ecosystem with cloud-dependent features at risk post-bankruptcy.
