Reality check
It is the friendliest humanoid to teach with, but its maker went bankrupt in 2025 and the brand now sits with a Chinese owner, so weigh long-term support before you commit a curriculum to it.

Sold openly; overwhelmingly bought by schools, universities, and healthcare.
Price notes: Generation Robots (EU): EUR 10,020 incl. tax for the bare-robot pack (with Choregraphe/SDK and 2-year warranty, 3-week delivery). RobotLAB (US): $16,990 for the NAO V6 Standard Edition. Refurbished units $5,500-12,500. Vendor risk: Aldebaran entered receivership in 2025 and assets were bought by China's Maxvision (now trading as Maxtronics, and aldebaran.com now redirects there). Aldebaran's cloud services ended on 1 Oct 2026: a NAO6 that has not taken the free Maxtronics software update loses the app store, software updates and remote speech recognition (it keeps working offline), so ask any seller, new or refurbished, to confirm the update.

What it does on day onewith zero programming
The most polished no-code experience here: autonomous life mode, speech recognition in ~20 languages, face and object detection, walking, and drag-and-drop Choregraphe programming, all working day one. Proven in classrooms and therapy for over a decade.
Best for: Educators and HRI researchers who want a proven, no-code, endlessly documented teaching humanoid.
What it takes to developskills, gear, and SDK access
None for classroom use (Choregraphe visual programming); Python or C++ NAOqi SDK for real development. No GPU or ROS needed.
SDK access: NAOqi OS + Choregraphe with Python/C++/Java SDKs and a huge education ecosystem. Closed-source firmware, and the post-receivership update roadmap is uncertain.
