OpenLoong Qinglong
China's first full-size open-source general-purpose humanoid, a 185 cm steel-fingered research platform whose entire hardware and control stack is published for anyone to build on rather than buy.

Dexterous hands included
Ships with two anthropomorphic five-finger dexterous hands, a signature feature demonstrated at WAIC 2024 where the steel-fingered hands gently picked up soft bread without crushing it. Aggregator listings cite roughly 12 DOF per hand across five fingers; the official spec sheet counts them within the robot's total active DOF (43) rather than breaking out a per-hand figure, so treat the exact per-hand DOF as approximate.

Reality check
This is an open-source reference design, not a product you order and deploy: you can download every drawing and line of control code for free, but there is no price, no cart, and no support desk, and turning a Qinglong into anything useful is a full robotics engineering project, not an unboxing.
Can you get one, and what will it cost?
A planning estimate with machine, freight, duty, and tax shown separately.
You cannot order the OpenLoong Qinglong today: it is research only.
Positioned as an open research reference rather than a retail robot. The hardware CAD, control software, and perception stack are freely downloadable from the OpenLoong GitHub/community, so anyone can build or study the design. Acquiring an actual physical Qinglong unit is done via direct engagement with the National and Local Co-Built Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center in Shanghai, oriented to research institutions, universities, and industrial R&D partners, not to general or consumer buyers.

Price notes: No official retail price has ever been published. Qinglong is an open-source reference platform, not a listed product, so there is no cart or price sheet. The Innovation Center reportedly spent on the order of 1 billion RMB (~$140M) developing the full-stack program, but that is R&D cost, not a unit price. Third-party robot aggregators list figures like "$90,000" alongside specs (165 cm, 40 DOF, 5 kg payload) that contradict the official spec sheet (185 cm, 43 DOF), so those numbers are unverified and are not treated as a real price here. A physical unit is obtained only through direct inquiry with the Center.

What it does on day onewith zero programming
With zero programming there is no consumer experience: Qinglong is a bare embodied-AI research platform, not an appliance. Running the shipped open-source stack, a unit can perform the demonstrated locomotion behaviors (stable walking, agile obstacle avoidance, slope walking, and impact/disturbance resistance) and basic teleoperated dexterous manipulation. Anything task-specific requires development on top of the platform.
Best for: Humanoid-robotics research labs, universities, and industrial R&D teams that want a fully open, full-size reference platform (hardware CAD plus whole-body control) to study, replicate, or extend, rather than a productized robot to deploy.
What it takes to developskills, gear, and SDK access
Serious robotics engineering. The intended workflow is to clone the OpenLoong repositories (whole-body dynamics control, hardware system, simulation) and develop against them. Expect Linux/ROS, C++/Python, familiarity with EtherCAT/real-time joint control, MuJoCo/Isaac-style simulation, and reinforcement-learning or model-based control pipelines. This is a platform for humanoid-robotics researchers and advanced developers, not for non-programmers.
SDK access: Fully open-source: the OpenLoong community (incubated by the OpenAtom Foundation, operated by Humanoid Robot (Shanghai) Co.) publishes the hardware platform, URDF/CAD, the OpenLoong-Dyn-Control whole-body dynamics package, and simulation/secondary-development projects on GitHub. Later iterations (Qinglong V3.0, 2025) add the "Gewu Zhizhi" embodied-AI training platform and a modular architecture for swapping walking/working/perception modules. Runs on a Linux/ROS-based stack.
