Reality check
This is the R1 you can actually code, but the one-hour battery and configuration-dependent hardware mean extra equipment depends on the work you plan to do.
Can you get one, and what will it cost?
A planning estimate with machine, freight, duty, and tax shown separately.
Configuration: R1 EDU Standard
Yes: importable into Germany on a standard machinery corridor.
Optional hands are excluded until a seller quotes them. Spare batteries and other accessories are excluded. Confirm compatibility and pricing with the seller.

Price notes: Unitree direct lists R1 EDU Standard at $10,500 before freight and tax. The store does not equate Standard with every reseller U1 bundle; confirm compute and accessories. US-fulfilled reseller pricing (import and warranty baked in) runs higher: RoboStore US lists the U1 at $15,950 with Pro tiers from $18,900 up to ~$32,000. quadruped.de (DE): U1 EUR 12,200 up to U6 EUR 27,000 excl. VAT (available from 28.12.2026). Generation Robots: from EUR 10,080 incl. VAT for the base Edu tier. Higher tiers add compute, DOF, and optional dexterous hands.

What it does on day onewith zero programming
Same remote-control walking and voice/vision demos as the consumer R1, plus it is immediately developable: high- and low-level programming, ROS2, and Isaac Sim support. Nothing autonomous until you build it.
Best for: Universities and startups that want a compact programmable humanoid with configurable compute.
What it takes to developskills, gear, and SDK access
Linux + ROS2 + Python/C++; a GPU workstation for sim/RL. The ~1h battery means bench power or spares for long dev sessions.
SDK access: Fully unlocked (the only R1 tier with secondary development): high/low-level APIs, ROS2, and configuration-dependent onboard compute. Confirm the module with the seller.
