R1

Frontier machineEnterprise onlyShipping now

The Galaxea R1 is a full-size wheeled humanoid: an upper-body humanoid (4-DOF torso plus two 6-DOF Galaxea A1 arms and two G1 grippers, 24 DOF total) on a three-wheel omnidirectional steering chassis, standing about 1.7 m tall.

Hands

Hands sold separatelypriced by quote

Default end-effectors are two Galaxea G1 force-limited parallel grippers (roughly 0-100 mm stroke), not fingered hands. Galaxea's current R1 comparison table lists only grippers for the base R1 and reserves dexterous hands for the R1 Pro; its older accessory guide lists an Inspire RH56DFX dexterous hand without naming compatible robots, and Forbes reported in Aug 2025 that the R1's price ran from about 320,000 RMB (grippers) to 459,900 RMB (five-finger hands). A standalone G1 gripper is listed at $399 on the Galaxea store (shown as sold out on 5 Oct 2026); standalone dexterous-hand pricing is not published, so treat it as quote-only.

Reality check

You are buying a capable ROS 1 (Noetic) mobile-manipulation platform, not an autonomous worker: the grippers are standard, Galaxea now lists dexterous hands only for the R1 Pro, and it does nothing useful until your engineers collect demonstrations and train the skills yourself.

Can you get one, and what will it cost?

Yes, with work

Yes, with work: importable into United States.

US authorization: We found no public FCC ID for this model. Since 28 July 2026 a foreign-made robot can be sold into the US only under an FCC authorization from before that date, so ask the seller for its FCC ID, or its Supplier's Declaration of Conformity dated before 28 July 2026, before you pay.

Optional hands: request a price

Optional hands are excluded until a seller quotes them. Spare batteries and other accessories are excluded. Confirm compatibility and pricing with the seller.

Where to buy

Catalog checked 2026-10

Businesses and institutions only. Confirm eligibility and configuration with the seller.

Sold to businesses, research labs, and integrators via quote, not a consumer add-to-cart product. Galaxea began selling R1 units in late 2024; documented buyers include Physical Intelligence and Stanford University, and Chinese automakers for factory logistics. Practically, expect a sales conversation and a purchase order rather than an instant checkout.

Price notes: The R1 series starts at 199,000 RMB (about $27,500). The full R1 robot is priced from roughly 320,000 RMB ($44,500, with parallel grippers) up to 459,900 RMB ($64,000, with five-finger dexterous hands), per Forbes (Aug 2025). The priceUsd shown ($44,500) is the gripper configuration; a dexterous-hand build runs to about $64,000. There is no public fixed USD sticker: reseller listings are Add-to-Quote, and the official store lists only the R1 Pro ($69,999) and R1 Lite ($39,999), not the base R1, which is still the configuration this price describes. EUR not published; a euro buyer pays a quoted price plus import. Educational and bulk discounts via product@galaxea-dynamics.com.

About the R1background, hardware and buying reality+

It trades legs for a stable wheeled base to focus on bimanual mobile manipulation for logistics, manufacturing, labs, and service. Galaxea AI (Beijing, founded 2023, ~$700M valuation with backers including Ant Group and Meituan) began selling the R1 in late 2024 and aimed to ship around 1,000 units in 2025, roughly half internationally. The base R1 ships as a ROS 1 (Noetic) developer platform with SLAM navigation and open demo code, not as a turnkey worker: real value comes from training your own manipulation policies. Galaxea's current R1 page lists isomorphic and VR teleoperation, but the base R1 guide still marks it as coming soon. Grippers are standard; Galaxea's current table lists dexterous hands only for the R1 Pro, though Forbes reported a five-finger R1 build in 2025. Documented users include Physical Intelligence and Stanford.

What it does on day onewith zero programming+

Day one with zero programming you can drive the omnidirectional chassis and raise or lower the torso with the included joystick controller, and run Galaxea's demo scripts and SLAM-based navigation. Puppeting the arms and grippers is not available from the box: the base R1 guide marks R1 teleoperation as coming soon. It reaches from the floor to about 2 m; Galaxea's current R1 page rates each arm at 2 kg (3.5 kg maximum) at 0.5 m reach, down from the 5 kg in its older user guide. It does not autonomously perform a useful production task until someone trains or scripts one.

Best for: Robotics labs, embodied-AI teams, and industrial integrators who want an affordable full-size bimanual mobile-manipulation platform to collect teleop data and train autonomous policies, and who have ROS 1 (Noetic) and machine-learning engineers on staff.

Two Galaxea A1 6-DOF arms (side-mounted)
Two Galaxea G1 parallel grippers
360 degree LiDAR
Stereo head camera and five surround chassis cameras (Galaxea's current R1 page marks wrist cameras as optional; its older guide counted two)
Onboard AI compute (NVIDIA Jetson-class)
Battery and charger
Joystick controller, hex-key wrench set, charger and cable set, wiring harness repair bag (the base R1 guide's packing list)

You still have to add

Arm teleoperation gear: the box holds a joystick controller for the chassis and torso, and the base R1 guide marks R1 teleoperation as coming soon; a VR or isomorphic teleoperation kit for data collection is not in the box Autonomous task software: it ships as a ROS 1 (Noetic) mobile-manipulation platform, not a robot that does your job on arrival Any trained skill or VLA policy for your specific task (you or a partner train it; Galaxea sells a separate VLA All-in-One unit) Long-term support, integration, and warranty beyond what the sales quote specifies

Documented uses

Robotics R&DManipulation research

Galaxea's R1 software guide documents a ROS Noetic SDK for development, with joint control of the arms and torso, chassis control and gripper position control topics.

Galaxea's current table lists grippers as the base R1's only end effector, its guide marks R1 teleoperation and arm pose control as coming soon, and the base R1 is absent from its online store.

Source reviewed 2026-10-05

Assessment from published documentation, not an independent performance test. Applies to the configuration described above.

What it takes to developskills, gear, and SDK access+

This is a developer and integrator platform. You need ROS 1 (Noetic on Ubuntu 20.04) and Linux fluency, Python/C++, and ideally imitation-learning or VLA experience to turn teleop demonstrations into autonomous skills. Budget engineer time for perception, task programming, and safety integration. A team collecting teleoperation data (optionally with the VR add-on) and training policies is the intended user, not a plug-and-play operator.

SDK access: Open documentation and demo code are public: the base R1 guide at userguide-galaxea.github.io/Product_User_Guide and code at github.com/userguide-galaxea (Product_User_Guide and Demo repos); the newer docs.galaxea-dynamics.com center covers the R1 Pro, R1 Lite and A1Z, not the base R1. The base R1 stack is ROS 1 (Ubuntu 20.04, ROS Noetic) with joint, chassis and gripper position control over ROS topics; arm and torso pose control are marked coming soon, and ROS 2 is what Galaxea states for the R1 Pro. No paywalled EDU tier is advertised for the base R1; the SDK/docs are accessible, and educational and bulk pricing on hardware is offered via product@galaxea-dynamics.com.
