Default end effectors are 1-DOF parallel-jaw grippers (about 100 mm open, 10 N nominal / 50 N peak grip force, roughly 400 g each) driven by a Dynamixel XM430 servo. Fingertips are interchangeable (shape, size, material) and the arm mount accepts other end effectors, but no articulated multi-finger hand is offered as standard. Grippers are included, not a paid add-on.

Reality check
You are buying an open, teleoperated research body with two simple grippers, not autonomous hands-and-brains: it grasps and manipulates beautifully when a person pilots it or your team codes it, but any independent behaviour is a project you build yourself.

Sold commercially with no gatekeeping tier, but the audience is research labs, universities, and companies doing embodied-AI and teleoperation work. At roughly 70,000 USD it is a lab capital purchase, not a consumer buy. You order by contacting Pollen Robotics / Hugging Face rather than an instant online checkout.
Price notes: Launch price widely reported at 70,000 USD for the dual-arm mobile version (Decrypt, AIbase, TechCrunch coverage of the Hugging Face lineup). Some spec aggregators list about 78,000 USD for the full dual-arm + mobile-base configuration, so treat 70,000 as the entry figure and expect the top config to run higher. Four configurations are sold at different prices: single-arm fixed base, dual-arm fixed base, single-arm + mobile base, and dual-arm + mobile base. Pollen does not publish a live price grid; you request a quote. EUR figure is an approximate parity estimate (Pollen is EU-based and quotes vary with config and exchange rate), not an official published euro price.

About the Reachy 2background, hardware and buying reality
It is a wheeled, human-scale upper-body robot: a 166 cm torso with an expressive head and two 7-DOF human-proportioned arms on an omnidirectional mobile base, built around Pollen's Orbita parallel actuators and Maxon motors. Its core mode is VR teleoperation (about 125 ms latency) plus a full Python SDK and ROS 2 stack, which makes it a favorite platform for embodied-AI research, imitation-learning data collection, and human-robot interaction studies rather than a plug-and-play autonomous worker. At around 70,000 USD it targets labs and companies, and it stands apart from the humanoid pack by being genuinely open hardware and software.
What it does on day onewith zero programming
Powered on with the VR teleoperation app, a human operator wearing a headset can pilot Reachy 2 in real time: move both arms, open and close the grippers to grasp and lift objects (up to about 3 kg per arm), look around through its cameras, and drive the omnidirectional base around a room, all with roughly 125 ms glass-to-glass latency and zero coding. Its head and antennae also animate expressively for human-robot interaction.
Best for: Research labs, universities, and embodied-AI teams that want an open, hackable, human-scale manipulation platform for teleoperation, imitation-learning data collection, and human-robot interaction work, not buyers looking for a robot that works autonomously out of the box.
