Dexterous hands included
Integrated. The redesigned hand is the main Gen 3 engineering focus: about 22 degrees of freedom per hand and roughly 50 actuators across both hands, tendon-driven from the forearm (which keeps the palm slim) with fingertip tactile sensing, enough to handle an egg or a glass vial without crushing it. The 28 DOF listed above is the body count and does not include the hands.

Reality check
Ignore the $20k-30k dream number. There is no way to order one, the dates have slipped repeatedly, the V3 has not even been shown, and as of Tesla's own July 2026 update the production lines are still being installed.
Can you get one, and what will it cost?

You cannot order the Optimus today: it is announced.
No one, and there is less behind the name than the hype suggests. Optimus V3 (Gen 3) has still not been publicly revealed. Tesla's Q2 2026 update on 22 July says it is still installing the first Optimus production lines and will start production 'soon', with the initial robots going to training-data collection and further development rather than to any customer. The machines working inside Tesla today are the prior generation.

Price notes: No orderable price. Musk's stated consumer target is $20,000-$30,000, but estimated current unit cost is $50,000-$100,000 and first enterprise units are expected far higher. No pre-order, reservation, or waitlist exists on tesla.com.

What it does on day onewith zero programming
Not applicable; no units outside Tesla. Internal deployments reportedly do factory material handling, a claim that cannot be independently verified, and Tesla's own July 2026 guidance is that the next units go to data collection rather than to work.
Best for: Nobody yet: every unit is inside Tesla.
